Meet Your 2019 Pacers

Join in with a pacer to reach your goal run time! The pace categories offered are 40 min, 45 min, 50 min, 55 min, 60 min, 65 min and 70 min. Look for your pacer at the start corral wearing a RUNVAN® Pacer shirt.

Pacers are experienced runners who run the race at an even pace with a specific goal time. This helps fellow runners stay on-pace to achieve their desired finish time. As a local non-profit organization, we truly value those who give back to others in the run community.

Pacers:

  • Run continuously at a steady pace to meet the goal time
  • Offer encouragement to the runners they are pacing
  • Arrive early to the race corrals. Seed yourself next to your goal time

1. Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
I am a peanut butter addict! I seriously have to limit myself some days… it’s my go-to fuel, and excellent with just about anything. Eating crunchy by the spoon is the way to do it!

2. What is your best race advice?
Firstly, congratulations for committing yourself to a goal! My best advice is to just stay relaxed out there on the weekend. When rounding some of the easier sections of the course, relax your shoulders, focus on your breathing, and settle into that pace. Lastly, if you’re following a pacer, don’t even look at your watch! Engage your competitors, and don’t let that pacer out of your sight. You are stronger than you think you are – you got this!

1. Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
I have my own food blog.

2. What is your favourite post-run food?
Bananas and coffee.

3. What is your best race advice?
Don’t overthink it. Treat the run like any other training run. Your body will know what to do. Breathe, relax, and have fun!

1. Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
When I ran my first marathon, I didn’t even know what energy gel is.

2. Why do you like RUNVAN®?
Well organized, they are a lot of fun, lot of food and lot of friends.

3. What is your best race advice?
[Don’t] too fast at the beginning, keep pace steady and maintaining your breath in the middle, keep running strong and smiling at the end.

1. Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
I love creating furniture and art from plywood and cardboard using laser cutter.

2. Why do you like to RUNVAN®?
The medals RUNVAN® make for their events are spectacular; they have a nice solid weight, and spectacular designs. T-shirts from the BMO Vancouver Marathon are also great. As proven by me, they can withstand dozens of washes, and tend to impress fellow runners.

3. We all have it. What is the worst, repetitive song in your head while running?
“Eye of the Tiger”, of course! You pass by the invited band, they happen to play it – boom! You’re stuck with the motive for the rest of the run.

1. Why do you like to RUNVAN®?
Always be big running parties and shine spots of Vancouver! Thanks for all organizers, volunteers and running lovers!

2. We all have it. What is the worst, repetitive song in your head while running?
I never wear a headset when I am running. Light and smooth steps are always the best “song” to me.

3. What is your best race advice?
Hold on your pace at the beginning and hold your pace until the finish, a trick to do this is to keep smiling!

1. List a fun fact about yourself
The first official race I ever ran was a marathon. I couldn’t walk for about 2 weeks.

2. We all have it. What is the worst, repetitive song in your head while running?
My worst experience with this was running past a band that was performing All Star by Smash Mouth. The chorus of that song was stuck in my head for a good 15 km. The worst thing is I don’t know the rest of the song very well so I couldn’t finish it in my head.

3. What is your best race advice?
Don’t try anything new on race day. Wear the same shoes you’ve already run in, wear clothing you’ve run in a dozen times, and eat the same things you’ve eaten during training. If you’ve never had oats for breakfast, race day is not the day to experiment with it.

1. Why do you like to RUNVAN®?
RUNVAN® has my favourite races. BMO was my first half. I love the Granville Island Turkey Trot, even [though] as Mexicans we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, I realized that there are so many things to be grateful and for me this is the best way to celebrate, and I adore [seeing everyone’s] costumes. I am sure that I will fall in love with the Fall Classic – all the nostalgia and the colours of autumn makes me happy

2. What is your favourite post-run food?
I love a protein shake with orange, apple or carrot juice, super refreshing and I can get back my energy super-fast. Probably an hour later I can eat an apple crostata and a cup of coffee.

3. What is your best race advice?
Slow down your breathing and try to relax, loosen up your shoulders.
