Virtual Race

A virtual race allows you to complete your race on your own, from anywhere. You may run, walk or stroll your race distance at your own pace and at a time and location of your choice, following the guidelines of your local health authorities. You may choose your own race day and your own starting line, whether it’s a treadmill, a park, your neighbourhood streets or Seawall.

In-Person Race

In-person events are back now that restrictions are lifted! Please note that traditional services like gear check, race day package pickup, water stations on-course, and entertainment will be limited or removed. While we hope restrictions will remain lifted, our local non-profit is being cautious with our return and respectful of volunteers who may not want to be in close contact to runners after the long COVID-19 shutdowns. The in-person race will include an official Start Line, Finish Line, timing and race results. For the Virtual Race, you’re asked to please find your own pedestrian friendly route.

When may I run the race?

Please first sign-up for the Virtual Race. You may then run the Granville Island Turkey Trot Virtual Race anytime between October 1 through October 15, or when it’s safe to do so in your geographical area. Please exercise proper social distancing and follow the guidelines of your local health authorities. The In-Person race is held annually on Thanksgiving Monday with an 8:30am start time.

Where is the Race Course?

In-Person: The scenic and fast 10KM race starts at Granville Island and loops over the Burrard Bridge to the Seawall, before turning at Science World and heading back along the Seawall to the energetic Finish Line on Granville Island. You’ll pass parks and run along the world-famous Seawall to a unique finish.

Virtual: Please choose your own route for the virtual event. By allowing you to create your own routes, you may participate from wherever you are! Use caution if running outside, and be alert of pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

Event Maps

Note: If you are running the Virtual Race, please choose your own route that is pedestrian friendly. Use caution if running outside, and be alert of pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Please also be respectful of safety concerns and follow the lead of your local health authorities. The Kids Run is virtual this year.

Road Closures

Safety Precautions

During Package Pickup and the race, please follow the physical distancing guidelines. Race kits, plus pre-ordered shirts and medals, will be provided in race bags for contactless pickup. You’ll still be requested to utilize the store hand sanitizers and accept that there may be capacity limits in-store. You may also choose to have your race kit mailed for a small shipping and handling fee.

On Race Day, runners usually wear a race bib with a timing chip and emergency contact info. This will be included on your bib for the In-Person event. For the Virtual Race, for safety reasons, please give someone else your race route and have an emergency contact located on your body or phone while you’re out just in case.

Aside from practicing safe, physical distancing, be alert of vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Remember, there are no road closures in effect during your Virtual Race. Try to stay on sidewalks or trails as much as possible and be sure to obey all traffic signals. If you’re going to listen to music, ensure you can still hear what’s going on around you. Treadmill racing may also be an option for you.

Finally, please be respectful and stay home if you feel unwell to help us all slow the spread of COVID-19. Thank you again for your patience, understanding, and cooperation. We remain hopeful that the public health risk associated with the COVID-19 pandemic will improve and encourage everyone to follow the lead of the Public Health Agency of Canada and related health organizations.

How may I submit race results?

In-Person race registration includes a Race Bib with a Timing Chip, and official results that will be posted online!

Virtual Race participants may submit their times from October 1-15. Virtual Race participants may use their unique ‘Confirmation Code‘ provided during registration as their ‘Claim Code‘ to record and submit Virtual Race results. You may upload data from your tracking device, or via manual input. Be sure to also share your ‘Finish Line’ photos on social @runvancanada #runvan
